Sub Contractor/ Masonry / Stone Carving / Fixing
Specialist masonry and carving for new stonework at Mowbray Hall, working for Biker Group as sub contractor and in collaboration with Ben Pentreath Architects. Our work includes the carving of Ionic capitals and console brackets, together with the complex setting out and fixing of new masonry to the portico and south and west doorways.

Architectural Carving
The architect’s designs were developed into clay models, which were then copied by hand in sandstone. The stone was carefully polished and carved to achieve the fine, crisp finish of the architectural detail.
Carved console brackets bring depth, light and shadow to the architectural detail.
Ionic capitals bring fine carving to the scale and geometry of the larger composition.
Complex Masonry & Fixing
The installation of the new stonework requires precise measurement, setting out and sequencing. Individual stones must relate accurately to one another while integrating with the existing building, with fixing methods, anchor positions and structural requirements considered as part of the design and installation.

Collaboration & Site Work
Close collaboration with the architect, main contractor and stone supplier has been essential throughout. Dave has taken responsibility for our work on site, coordinating the fixing and resolving the practical complexities of bringing precisely designed masonry and carving together on this lovely building.
